Adult Cardiac Anesthesia

Six dedicated members of Park Ridge Anesthesia Associates (PRAA) are board-certified, fellowship-trained Cardiac Anesthesiologists. They are the current members of our Division of Cardiac Anesthesia, originally formed in 1979. This group provides 24-hour-per-day physician coverage of anesthetic and special medical needs that cardiac patients require before, during, and after cardiovascular procedures

All or PRAAs Cardiac Anesthesiologists are experienced with “off-pump” coronary-bypass procedures. Off-pump bypass operations do not involve a heart-lung machine. At Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, over 95% of all coronary-bypass procedures are “off-pump”. Compared to on-pump coronary bypass, off-pump bypass is less stressful to the patient, requires less anesthesia, and therefore results in a more rapid recovery. Patients can often go home on the 4th postoperative day.

Many independent evaluations have placed Advocate Lutheran General Hospital among nationally recognized hospitals for cardiac services. Lutheran General has been named a top-100 hospital in a study of cardiovascular success for three of the last four years. Lutheran General is one of only two teaching hospitals and one of four hospitals generally in Illinois to receive this recognition. In 2007, U.S. News and World Reports named Lutheran General one of the nation’s Top 50 Hospitals for Cardiac Services.

We are very proud of our national ranking and the members of our cardiac services team plan on continuing to provide services that merit distinction!!
